Your Guide to Warba Potatoes: Canada’s First Fresh Spuds of the Season

Meet the Warba: Canada’s First Harvested Potato of the Season

At Ten Servings, we believe food should be fresh, flavorful, and full of purpose—and nothing says “fresh” quite like the first potato harvesting of the season, which is what we do! Heppell’s is the first farm in Canada to harvest fresh potatoes each year, and we’re proud to spotlight one of our all-time favorites: Warba potatoes.

What Makes Warba Potatoes Special?

Warba potatoes are one of the first crops to be harvested each year in Canada, and they’re unlike anything else you’ll find on store shelves. With their signature pink eyes and creamy white skin, Warbas are visually striking—but it’s their taste and freshness that really make them shine.

These are early crop potatoes, harvested before the skin has fully set. That means when we wash them, the loose skin naturally peels off, revealing a smooth, bright surface that feels as fresh as it tastes. This gentle harvesting method is what gives Warbas their delicate look and tender texture.

A Taste That Speaks for Itself

Warba potatoes are known for their rich, earthy flavour and creamy bite. They’re perfect for boiling, roasting, baking—or just tossing into a salad with a touch of butter and sea salt. There’s no need for fancy toppings; these potatoes speak for themselves.

What sets them apart even more? At our partner farm, there’s a special focus on growing nugget-sized Warbas—small potatoes under 2 inches in size. These bite-sized spuds are packed with concentrated flavour and cook quickly, making them ideal for busy weeknights or summer grilling.

Why We Choose Warbas

Growing Warbas isn’t the easiest task. The crop has to be carefully managed to ensure the potatoes stay small and don’t overgrow. But the result is worth it: a truly unique, once-a-year potato that represents the best of what fresh, local food should be.

Don’t Miss Your Chance—Warba Season Is Short!

Warba potatoes are only available for a limited time each year, usually at the start of the growing season. If you’ve never tasted these early harvest potatoes, now’s the time. They sell out quickly—and once they’re gone, you’ll have to wait until next year.

However, if you want to get your hands on some ugly (and free) produce, join us at Ugly Potato Day! Our biggest event yet will be held August 9th 2025, where we will be attempting to break a Guinness World Record. 🤯

I ordered tickets to my email and then realized you were in BC and I’m in Ontario. Can you please donate my ticket to someone else in the area who needs it. I love what you’re doing! Thank you so much!

So these only get sold in BC? Or are they shipped to other provinces like Ontario?
Thanks in advance!
